May, month of the Canary Islands

A very special date for all residents on the 7 islands and, of course, for the thousands of people who visit us every year. On the occasion of such significant date, throughout the month of May different scheduled events will follow each other on every island, in honour of our traditions, history and, of course, gastronomy.

On the island of Tenerife, it takes place the so called ‘Mayo Canario’, when our Hotel Puerto de la Cruz gains prominence actively participating and supporting all the activities organized. On 27th and 28th of May the Arts & Crafts Trade Fair takes place. Along Mequinez Street, the artisans of the island offer their handicrafts and typical products to both residents and visitors to Tenerife, at an appointment to take note of and enjoy.

The most significant event those days at Puerto de la Cruz is definitely the Paseo Romero, on May 30th, when a carriage from Hotel Puerto de la Cruz, alongside other carts pulled by oxen and cows, will go along a path in Puerto de la Cruz, during which some popular folklore bands will cheer up all the attendants. Guests from our hotel can wear the typical ‘Mago’ costumes and get into the carriage to feel as stars on such a deeply-rooted festivity. The path leads to Plaza del Charco. There, a stage will be settled where a Folk Music Festival will take place, and people will be able to dance up till twelve p.m., to finish the day on a high note; a day when Canary feeling will be more present than ever.

In Lanzarote, Hotel Princesa Yaiza organizes a big celebration every year, where the typical local gastronomy of Plaza Princesa Yaiza stands out, accompanied by the live sound of the Canarian timple, as the hotel staff proudly wear the typical costumes of the island. On this day, all the hotel restaurants pay a special tribute to Canarian cuisine, specially the award-winning restaurant Isla de Lobos, which has received the Best Canarian Gastronomy Award and is specialized in avant-garde cuisine elaborated with zero kilometre products; that is to say, coming from farms and producers from Lanzarote.

The appointment on 30th May will be essential for both Canary islanders and all those tourists who accompany us on that day as part of their holidays. All the staff from PY Hotels & Resorts Group wish to make a toast with them to celebrate this Day of the Canary Islands.
