PY Hotels & Resorts with World Wildlife Day

The current trend of humankind is the exploitation of natural resources above their capacity for renewal, as well as the use of other polluting resources that cause harm to many animal endangered species.

World Wildlife Day is celebrated every 3rd of March. It is a day to raise awareness about the multiple benefits of preserving our planet, and at PY Hotels & Resorts we take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of a sustainable and responsible management of natural resources, as well as raise consciousness about the importance of taking care of our planet.

One of our essential pillars has always been the implementation of high-technology equipment in our facilities, advantageous for environmental preservation, besides establishing the philosophy of the three R’s in our staff: Reducing, Recycling and Reusing.

To Reduce environmental impact, our hotels are equipped with solar panels to obtain 100% sustainable energy, reducing the use of energy and polluting fuel. In addition, the programming of the automatic lights switch-on in our facilities involves a reduction in the consumption of energy, in the same way that, during the low season, we switch off electronic devices in lower floors or blocks where rooms are not occupied.

As for Kilometre 0 experience of Restaurant Isla de Lobos at Hotel Princesa Yaiza, both sustainability and waste reduction are two of the main premises of this movement. Proximity to raw ingredients results in the reduction of plastics used for packaging and preservation and also in the reduction of polluting gases discharged during the transport of products.

Recycling is one of the daily tasks our staff pays special attention to, since all our employees carry out a proper waste segregation and avoid the production of highly polluting waste.

Finally, the energy released by some devices can be reused. In this case, our establishments are equipped with a system that, in warmer months, does not waste the energy produced by air conditioning devices, but it is destined to heat the water of pools or the water used for domestic purposes.

All this effort to take care of our planet has been rewarded along our career, specially at our Hotel Princesa Yaiza, with the Gold Certificate for Environmental Preservation, awarded since 2014 by the organization for tourism sustainability Travelife, in addition to the 2013 TUI Blue Award in the category “Best Sustainable Development” and 2016 and 2017 TUI UMWELT CHAMPION awards, in the category of Environmental Sustainability.

And, as every little gesture counts, next March 24th we will join Earth Hour, the global initiative of the NGO World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), when, at 20.30 p.m., one more year, we will proceed to switch off the lights of all our hotels, to raise awareness about climate change.
