International Coastal Cleanup: discover the best beaches in Lanzarote and Tenerife

This September we celebrate the International Coastal Cleanup day, and if there’s something we can be proud of in the Canary Islands, these are our astonishing beaches, which suit all tastes. The initiative of devoting a day to these natural environments arose from the American organization Ocean Conservancy in 1986. Their aim has been to raise awareness of the need to take care of world’s beaches and preserve them. It is a day when different awareness-raising activities are organized and volunteers from all over the world get to the beaches to collect waste. To all of us at PY Hotels & Resorts, it seems a praiseworthy cause, since most of our hotels are located on the Canarian coastline. For this reason, today we would like to recommend you to visit some of the best beaches in Lanzarote, where you can get easily to from our Hotel Princesa Yaiza or from Suite Hotel Fariones Playa, and in Tenerife, accessible from our Hotel Puerto de la Cruz.
Playa de Papagayo. This beach is located in the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches in Lanzarote. Here you can enjoy a natural landscape, genuinely wild, without any building or man-made alteration in the environment nearby. It is advisable to take food supplies with you to spend the day; remember you can order a take-away picnic Premium at the hotel! There are several beaches in the area and all of them are alike: golden sand, crystal waters and a great deal of peace and tranquillity.
Playa de Famara. A beach 6 km long, sheltered by the highest mountain in Lanzarote, Peñas del Chache. It is usually a windy beach with strong waves, so it is ideal for the practice of surfing and windsurfing, although some precautions must be taken when having a swim. You can enjoy astonishing sunsets at the end of each day.
Playa Dorada. Just in front of our Hotel Princesa Yaiza, in Playa Blanca, lies this beach with white sand and quiet waters. That which was originally a fishing village, has now become a tourist area with all conveniences, with a great gastronomy offer and a wide range of leisure activities.
Playa Grande. Our Suite Hotel Fariones Playa has the privilege of being located just in front of this spectacular beach situated in Puerto del Carmen. Due to all its facilities and its quiet waters, Playa Grande is one of the most popular beaches in the area, and is fully adapted to people with reduced mobility.
Playa de Benijo. In the northern area of Tenerife, within Anaga Country Park, lies this wild, black volcanic sand beach. It is advisable to visit it during the low tide hours in order to have more room to lay your towel. There’s nothing but nature around this beach, so once more we recommend you to order your take-away lunch at the hotel and, once there, just relax and disconnect.
Playa Jardín. Our Hotel Puerto de la Cruz is just a few steps away from this striking black sand beach, which makes a huge contrast with the environment and vegetation around. On both sides of the beach, we find another two beaches: Playa Chica and Punta Brava. It is equipped with numerous facilities, and it lies near the old village of Puerto de la Cruz, where you can take a nice stroll once your beach day is over.
Playa de las Teresitas. The urban beach of Santa Cruz de Tenerife does not resemble an urban beach at all. At scarce distance from the town centre, we find this fine sand environment against a backdrop of mountains and, in clear days, a view of the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria.
This is just a small selection of beaches in Lanzarote and Tenerife that will leave you astounded. Now you must get to know them first-hand, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of our promotions and book your stay at the best prize. The best beaches in the Canary Islands are waiting for you!
